MAIN REGIONS
1 - Northern Thailand
Regional capital: Chiang Mai
Northern Thailand is known for its beautiful mountains, jungles, cultural
monuments and temples. One of the most popular cities is located here,
Chiang Mai, which offers a wonderful combination of traditional and
modern life. In addition to Chiang Mai, you should not miss Chiang Rai,
where you will find the famous White Temple (Wat Rong Khun).
Weather and best time to visit: The north is very pleasant during winter
(November to February) – sunny during the day and temperatures are
mild, making it an ideal time for hiking. Spring (March to May) can be
extremely hot, while the rainy season comes in summer (June to
October).
2 - Eastern Thailand
Regional capital: Trat + islands of Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak
Trat is a charming province in eastern Thailand, known for its peaceful
atmosphere, pristine islands and beautiful greenery all around. It is
home to the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak, which are truly
unique and boast some of the most beautiful coastlines in all of
Thailand. This area is located close to the Cambodian border.
Weather and best time to visit: The climate is similar to the north - the
most pleasant months are November to February. Summers are dry
and extremely hot (up to 40°C), while the rainy season is also from
June to October.
3 - Central Thailand
Regional capital: Bangkok
Central Thailand is home to Bangkok, a bustling capital full of life,
street food, and iconic landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.
In addition to Bangkok, the region also has the city of Ayutthaya, the
former capital of Siam, which is now full of ruins and temples.
Weather and best time to visit: Bangkok and the surrounding area are
hot almost all year round. The best time to visit is from November to
February, when temperatures are milder and humidity is lower. In the
summer (March to May), Bangkok can get really hot, with
temperatures exceeding 35°C, while the rain season starts in June and
last until October.
4 - Southern Thailand
Main destinations: Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui
Southern Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches and islands. The
most popular destinations are Phuket, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi and Koh
Samui, where you will find turquoise seas, white beaches and palm
trees. The region is divided into two parts - the western coast of the
Andaman Sea and the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand.
Weather and best time to visit: On the west coast (Phuket, Krabi) the
best time is from November to March when the weather is dry and
pleasant. The rainy season is from May to October. The east coast (Koh
Samui) has a slightly different cycle, the best time to visit is from
December to April, with the heaviest rain in October and November.
